Discover Bonchon San Gabriel

The first time I walked into Bonchon San Gabriel, I was hit with that unmistakable aroma of sizzling oil and garlic drifting through the air. Tucked into 710 W Las Tunas Dr C2-C4, San Gabriel, CA 91776, this Korean fried chicken spot has quietly built a loyal following among locals who take their crispy wings seriously. After several visits-some casual weeknight dinners, others loud group hangouts-I can honestly say this location delivers consistency, flavor, and that addictive crunch people talk about in countless reviews.

If you’re not familiar with Bonchon, the brand is known for its Korean-style double-fried chicken. That process isn’t just marketing hype. The chicken is fried once to render the fat, then fried again at a higher temperature to create a thin, crackly crust. According to food science research from sources like the USDA and culinary institutes, double frying reduces surface moisture, which results in a crispier texture that stays crunchy longer. You can actually hear the difference here-the wings crackle when you bite into them.

The menu at Bonchon San Gabriel centers on wings, drumsticks, and boneless strips, but there’s more to explore. The soy garlic and spicy flavors are the stars. I usually order a half-and-half combo because choosing just one feels impossible. The soy garlic offers a balanced umami profile-savory, slightly sweet, with deep caramelized notes. The spicy version, on the other hand, builds heat gradually instead of overwhelming your palate. It’s bold but not reckless.

Beyond chicken, the menu includes Korean comfort dishes like bibimbap, japchae, and kimchi fried rice. On one visit, I brought a friend who doesn’t eat fried food often. She opted for the bulgogi bibimbap, and the presentation was vibrant-colorful vegetables, marinated beef, and a perfectly fried egg on top. Once mixed together, the flavors felt cohesive and hearty. The balance of protein, rice, and vegetables aligns with what many nutrition experts highlight as a well-rounded meal structure, even when dining out.

Service at this San Gabriel location has been reliably efficient. Orders are typically placed at the counter, and the staff calls your number when the food is ready. Even during peak dinner hours, the wait time has been reasonable in my experience-usually 15 to 20 minutes for freshly fried chicken. Freshness matters here; Bonchon cooks to order rather than leaving batches under heat lamps, which explains both the wait and the quality.

The dining area itself is casual and modern, with clean tables and a straightforward layout. It’s not a fine-dining space, but that’s not the point. This is the kind of place where families, students, and coworkers gather to share platters and debate which sauce reigns supreme. The portions are generous, making it ideal for group dining. In fact, on my last visit with four friends, a large combo easily satisfied everyone with leftovers to spare.

Customer feedback across major review platforms tends to highlight three consistent themes: crunch, flavor intensity, and reliability. While some diners mention occasional busy periods, most agree that the quality of the chicken makes the wait worthwhile. From my own repeat visits, I’d agree. Consistency is often what separates a good restaurant from a great one, and this Bonchon location understands that.

It’s also worth noting that Bonchon is part of a global franchise that began in South Korea before expanding internationally. That background adds a layer of credibility to its approach to Korean fried chicken. While no chain is perfect, the San Gabriel branch maintains the brand’s reputation for high standards in preparation and taste.

If you’re exploring restaurants in San Gabriel and craving something crispy, savory, and deeply satisfying, Bonchon San Gabriel stands out. Whether you’re there for a quick lunch, a casual dinner, or a group feast, the combination of fresh double-fried chicken, flavorful sauces, and a dependable menu makes it a spot I keep coming back to.

  • Came by the other day with some coworkers after seeing they had a $1 wing special (dine-in only). Bonchon is known for their Korean Fried Chicken, and they definitely deliver on that crispy goodness. I went with the Yangnyeom and Soy Garlic sauces—both packed with flavor and hit the spot. For a buck each? That’s a steal. I also tried their chicken sandwich with fries and was pleasantly surprised. The sandwich was juicy and flavorful—not dry at all. They’ve got happy hour drink deals too, which is a nice bonus. The shop is on the smaller side, so there might be a wait depending on when you go. But overall, when I’m craving KFC in the SGV, this spot is high on the list.

  • Dropped by Bonchon in San Gabriel with my brother for a late dinner, and it definitely hit the spot. We started with the bulgogi fries—perfect portion to share, and the sauce was on point. Only thing we wished for was a little more bulgogi on top. For the main event, we ordered the medium combo (8 wings and 4 drumsticks) with soy garlic and spicy flavors. Both were insanely good. You could tell they took the time to hand-brush the sauce on each piece—the chicken was fully coated, super crispy, and addicting. Every bite had us going back for more. We added pickled radish on the side, which was a smart move—it helped refresh our palate between the two bold flavors. For drinks, we tried the Terra beer from Korea, and it paired perfectly with the fried chicken. One last thing worth mentioning—they squeezed us in 30 minutes before closing on a Sunday night. Total MVPs for that. Honestly, one of the best spots for fried chicken in the SGV. We’ll definitely be back.

  • I had BonChon many times in Thailand but this is the first time in USA and everything was different. This place has a local and cozy vibe. The server was very friendly and the food was more well-rounded than just fried chickens. The fried chicken was nice still, and worth ordering. The coating was thin and flaky. Inside was very juicy. I went when they had $1 wings promotion and I think it's still ongoing. This promotion made it really worth it. The pickled radish goes better than the coleslaw as a side to me. The bibimbap was very good too and it’s priced by which protein you pick. The Korean corn and corn dog didn’t stand out to me, but I think the food overall still deserve 5 stars.

  • The crispy wings and seasoned fries are customer favorites!! These wings are double fried and their signature sauces are brushed on. It’s crunchy, sweet, spicy, salty and tangy! I couldn’t resist trying one of their new menu items: bulgogi Tteokbokki. The best of both worlds! So savory! The perfect chewy bite!! Don’t miss out on their Korean corn dog, pork belly bao buns, and crispy, spicy chicken sandwich!!

  • The food is so delicious here!! The fries were crunchy, the meat sweet and flavorful, and the sauce was good! The tacos are delicious too especially the spicy ones. At the end we had a donut for dessert and it was warm and sweet. Perfect to end our dinner. Our waiter was very amiable and attentive. He gave us suggestions and was very nice! Definitely will be returning.

  • Loved the wings! I came during their $1 wing special in July. I tried the spicy BBQ, spy garlic, yangnyeom, and regular flavored wings. They were all good. I liked the Korean BBQ the most (very sweet and savory) and the plain one the least. They have beer on tap for decent prices, too. Customer service was good considering the place was packed. There's parking but the lot was packed. Most of the customers were from this restaurant too. I ended up parking on the street to save time.
